Abstract: O-linked attachment of the monosaccharide-N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) is a highly dynamic and ubiquitous posttranslational protein modi- fication, plays a critical role in regulating numerous biological processes. O-GlcNAc transferase and O-GlcNAcase are responsible for the addition and removal of O-GlcNAc from serine/threonine residues, respectively. Recently, a number of studies demonstrating that acute increases in O-GlcNAc synthesis afford remarkable cardiovascular protection, especially against hypoxia-reoxygenation and septic stress stimuli, main potential mechanisms include:anti-inflammatory, increased synthesis of HSPs, anti-apoptosis.
