Abstract:

Background Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a new noninvasive method to monitor oxygen balance in the body. It has been used for real-time perioperative monitoring in patients with heart diseases to reduce postoperative complications and to facilitate recovery. Objective To provide reference for the related research and clinical application of NIRS in perioperative monitoring duration cardiac surgery. Content According to the Lambert-Beer Law and the light scattering theory, photo-absorption coefficients of reduced and oxygen-saturated hemoglobin are significantly different. The fluctuation of photo-absorption detected by NIRS can be used to estimate the dynamics of oxygen saturation in the blood. The estimation is often confounded by intracranial perfusion pressure, diameter of carotid, and hematocrit. During operation, surgeons can rely on NIRS to determine whether intervention is needed to prevent the occurrence of neurological complications. Post-operative NIRS monitoring can detect low cardiac output syndrome. Trend Perioperative monitoring with NIRS in patients with heart diseases can reduce the neurological complications and improve recovery in these patients.
