Abstract: Background There are far fewer α1 receptors than β receptors in the non-failing heart, but the abundance of α1 receptors is increased in heart failure. Evidences from decades of studies in isolated cardiac myocytes and numerous animal models demonstrate important adaptive functions for cardiac α1 receptors. Objective To review the role of cardiac α1 receptors and its application in heart failure. Content This review will introduce heart α1 receptors from three aspects: the expression and function of α1 receptors in the heart, its application in heart failure. Trend To better understand the significance of cardiac α1 receptors and make better guidelines for cardiac malfunction administration.
