Abstract: Objective To explore the effects of propofol and midazolam on intracellular toxin-induced inflammatory reaction in isolated cells. Methods Monocytes were collected from rabbit blood and cultured in media containing placebo (group A), 10 μmol/L of midazolam (group C), 10 μmol/L of propofol (group D) or 10 μmol/L of both midazolam and propofol (group B). Endotoxin LPS was delivered into the media later. TNF-α level was detected with chemiluminescent method before and immediately after, 80, 120, 180 min after LPS delivery, respectively. Results Both propofol and midazolam significantly reduced the level of TNF-α released by isolated monocytes in the presence of LPS. Conclusion Propofol and midazolam can inhibit the release of intracellular toxin-induced inflammatory factors.
