Mivacurium Chloride is the member of benzylisoquinolinium nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents currently available for use in the operating room or intensive care unit. Its advantages include the shortest-acting, nondepolarizing muscle relaxant and rapid metabolism by plasma cholinesterase. Because mivacurium has noncumulative pharmacodynamic properties, it is very well suited for administration by infusion. It should be found its place among the other available nondepolarizing relaxants that are widely used in anesthesia for day surgery. Because the drug has no potentially neurotoxic effects, it can be safely used in neurosurgery. This article reviews its physicochemical properties and pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
