Background Shikani Optical Stylet (SOS) is a novel fiberoptic intubation device, it combines the features of fiberoptic bronchoscope and lightwand and can be used for tracheal intubation and difficult airway management. Purpose To review the application of SOS in the clinical setting and describe the characteristics of the technique for tracheal intubation. Content Summarizing the structural characteristics, operational technique, clinical application and clinical determination of SOS, especially reminding its limitiatons. Trend SOS will play a more and more important role in airway management in future, however, it is not a universal key to cope with difficult airway, clinical physicians should make decisions in accordance with specific conditions.
