Abstract: Background Cervical epidural steroid injection is performed effectively in pain relief to patients with cervical radiculopathy. Objective This article reviews the application of epidural steroid injection(ESI) on cervical radiculopathy. Content The indications and contraindications of ESI are described, in addition, the analgesic mechanisms and formulations of steroid, two major portals to cervical epidural space, efficacy, complication as well as precautions are introduced. Trend Clinicians should take more effort to reduce and avoid the complications caused by cervical epidural steroid injection. More researches are expected in identifying predictive factors to improve the outcomes and reduce the cost.
