Background Morphine is usually used as a superactive drug to treat moderate or severe pain, especially for advanced cancer pain. However, the long time application of morphine could cause its tolerance. With the progresses on the mechanisms of morphine tolerance, researchers obtained many new ideas on treating morphine tolerance. Objective This review mainly focuses on its advances recently, in order to provide experimental and clinical experience about treating morphine tolerance. Content Many researchers found that different kinds of methods could postpone or even reverse morphine tolerance. This review will introduce the treatment methods of drug and acupuncture. Trend Combination of morphine and many other drugs or acupuncture may be a trend on treating morphine tolerance in the future.
