Abstract: Objective To develop a new type of tracheal catheter fixation tape to reduce the catheter displacement rate and removal rate in the patients with general anesthesia. Methods One hundred patients receiving the lumbar surgery of posterior decompression and internal fixation with general anesthesia and prone position were randomly divided into two groups. In the control group of 50 cases, the traditional medical tape was used for tracheal catheter fixation, assistant with 3M transparent glue film fixation on both cheeks. In the experimental group of 50 cases a new tape was used for tracheal catheter fixation, the effect of two fixation methods was observed and compared. Results There was no displacement or removal of tracheal catheter in the experimental group. Also, there were only two cases of facial skin redness and no skin allergy or damage. Thus, the rate of skin allergy was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.01). Conclusions The new type of tracheal catheter fixation tape can significantly reduce the displacement and removal rate of tracheal catheter. It can also reduce the incidence of facial skin irritation. The new fixation tape is worth to be promoted in clinical practice.
