Abstract: Background: The pitfalls may occur when securing the airway in the obstetric patient. Current trends in obstetric anesthesia have resulted in a significant decrease in exposure of anesthetists to difficult airway management of obstetric patient, especially trainees. Videolaryngoscopes have recently appeared in the algorithms for difficult airway management. Object: This review aims to induce some issues regarding difficult airway management of obstetric patient and the use of videolaryngoscopy in obstetric airway management. Contents: Obstetric difficult airways are attributable to patient and anesthetic factors. Successful airway management of obstetric patient requires adequate airway assessment and preparation, optimal position and anesthetic procedure and detailed algorithms as to how to do in case of difficult airway. The available evidence shows that videolaryngoscopy is a useful tool for obstetric airway management, especially when difficult or failed intubation with direct laryngoscopy occurs. The guidelines for difficult airway management recommend that videolaryngoscopes should be available to all anesthetists and that all anesthetists should be trained in how to use them. Trend: There is growing interest in the potential use of videolaryngoscopy in the obstetric airway management.
