Abstract: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery, as the main treatment for neurodegenerative diseases, has the advantages of little invasion, reversibility, high safety, and significant long‑term efficacy. Anesthesia methods for deep brain stimulation surgery include local anesthesia, conscious sedation, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), asleep‑awake‑asleep (AAA) anesthesia, and general anesthesia. At present, there are few review on the anesthesia management of this surgery. In this paper, by introducing the indications and process of DBS surgery and summarizing anesthesia methods, anesthetic agents, perioperative management, and prevention and treatment of complications, the advances of anesthesia management in DBS surgery is expounded. The choice of anesthesia methods and drugs for DBS surgery is still in the exploratory stage. More high‑quality research results are needed to guide the anesthesia management of DBS surgery.
