Chronic pain is a common disease, but its pathological mechanisms have not been completely understood. Several studies indicated that reactive astrocytes play an important role in the occurrence and progression of pain, and have the prospect to become a novel target of pain therapy. This article reviews the mechanisms of reactive astrocytes in chronic pain and the treatment landscape, in order to provide new thoughts for the research and treatment of pain.
