Abstract: Objective To observe the effects of sphenopalatine block ganglion block (SPBG) on postoperative pain in patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery. Methods Sixty endoscopic sinus surgery patients ,31 males and 29 females, aged 18 to 45 year,ASA physical status ⅠorⅡ,According to the random number table method, they were randomly divided into two groups:general anesthesia (group G,n=30) and general anesthesia plus endoscopic SPBG (group B, n=30). The duration of operation and intraoperative blood loss were recorded. The VAS pain scores of patients upon arrival at the post anesthesia care unit (PACU) and 2, 6, 12 and 24 hours after surgery were recorded. Overall analgesic usage was recorded 24 hours and 7 days after surgery. The patient's overall satisfaction with pain control and complications (bleeding, nausea and vomiting, and visual impairment) were recorded end of 24 hours and 7 days. Results There was a significantly differed in term of intraoperative blood loss between the two groups (P0.05). VAS pain score of group S upon arrival to the PACU and 2, 6, 12 and 24 hours after surgery was significantly lower (P0.05), the analgesic requirements of group S and the satisfaction scores with pain control at the end of 24 hours and 7 days after surgery were significantly lower (P0.05). Conclusion SPBG with ropivacaine is a safe and effective method to relieve pain after endoscopic sinus surgery, it is effectively replace high-dose analgesics after surgery.
