Abstract: Propofol is a common intravenous anesthetic, and its safety is highly concerned. Accumulated evidence has indicated that propofol has neuron damaging effects on immature animal brain. When it is used as analgesic or sedative during in-vitro fertilization, propofol accumulates in the follicular fluid. Controversy still exists whether it is harmful to the offspring when it used in Cesarean section or non-obstetric surgery during pregnancy. The approaches assessing the effects of propofol on children need to be improved.
