Abstract: Background Stroke volume variation (SVV) is a functional hemodynamic parameter, which is a sensitive, accurate and safe indicator for the assessment of volume state and fluid responsiveness in patients under mechanical ventilation. Objective To summarize the indications, influential factors and research progress of SVV. Content SVV is produced by heart-lung interaction and can be measured continuously through arterial pressure waveform analysis. It is mainly used in perioperative and shock patients who are under mechanical ventilation. Although SVV is better correlated with volume change than the traditional static hemodynamic indicators, it is influenced by a variety of factors. Trend SVV has been a promising research hotspot in recent years, especially when used in goal-directed therapy .
