Abstract: 【Abstract】Objective To investigate the effects of flumazenil on postoperative bispectral index change and conscious recovery in patients anesthetized with etomidate. Methods 40 patients undergoing the resection of breast section in general anesthesia were randomly divided into flumazenil group (F group) and control group (C group), in total intravenous anesthesia with etomidate mainly.Patients were given flumazenil 0.5 mg or saline 5 ml after surgery and observed in PACU for 2 h after extubation. The scores were assessed by the OAA/S sedation ratings and BIS values at 1, 2, 3, 5 min and 10 min after injecting flumazenil or saline after surgery in each group. Adverse reactions were recorded after intravenous flumazenil. Results There were no significantly difference at age, height, weight, operation time in both groups. At 1min after intravenous flumazenil the OAA/S score and BIS value were no significantly difference in both groups, but at 2, 3, 5min and 10 min after intravenous flumazenil, the OAA/S score and BIS value in Group F(OAA/S: 1.60±0.27,2.95±0.31,3.50±0.37,4.56±0.21,BIS: 63.2±2.3,67.1±8.3,78.3±6.2,87.8±3.3) were significantly higher than those of group C(OAA/S: 0.60±0.17,1.80±0.37,2.90±0.20,3.10±0.61,BIS: 53.1±2.0,55.2±6.1,62.3±5.2,69.2±4.2) at each time (P<0.01). Adverse reactions were no significantly difference in both groups. Conclusions Flumazenil might improve snooze function in patients anesthetized with etomidate.
