Abstract: Background As a growing number of studies showed that Central Venous Pressure(CVP) fails to predict the fluid responsiveness, because of its inaccuracy and not real-time, Stroke Volume Variation(SVV)is paid more and more attention as a functional dynamic index. Objective The purpose of this review is to investigate the reliability and guidance value of SVV, so as to provide clinical basis for Goal- Directed Therapy (GDT). Content This article will review the fundamental principle, measurement methods, application value and limitations of SVV during different operations. Trend The predictive value of SVV is widely valued, so it is more likely that SVV, instead of CVP, will be a new alternative predictor for intra-operative fluid responsiveness.
