Abstract: Background Occludin, one of integral membrane proteins, extensively exists in epithelial cells and endothelial cells of brain, liver, lung, kidney and other important organs, constituting tight junctions(TJs) with Claudin, ZO-1, ZO-2 and ZO-3 together. Phosphorylation of Occludin plays an important role in the regulation of TJs function, structure and permeability. Objective This paper aims to introduce different kinds of phosphorylation as to promote our knowledge of TJs and its permeability. Content This paper introduced biological characteristics of occludin, different kinds of phosphorylation and clinical significance of phosphorylation. Trend Further investigation on phosphorylation of occluding and its mechanism should be done to come up with proper measurement to decrease the injury of organs and improve the quality of the patients.
