Abstract: Background Anticoagulation is an important clinical issue. At present, the new oral anticoagulants (NOACs) are increasingly replacing traditional anticoagulants in clinical practice. Advantages of these new agents include their rapid onset and elimination, predictable anticoagulant effect and no need for routine monitoring. Objective To report the recent progress in NOACs applied in the perioperative period. Content To summarize the current literature on NOACs' pharmacology and clinical application, especially in the period of operation. Trend If possible, the NOACs should be suspended preoperatively for a certain time based on patient's renal function and operative procedure.
