Abstract: Background The mechanisms of pathological pain initiation and maintenance is very complicated. In recent years, more and more researchers focus on the effects of spinal cord glia in the pathological pain. Especially, the glial activation and proliferation inhibitors became the research emphasis. Objective This review will describe the effects of glia on pathological pain and the mechanisms and research progresses of some glia inhibitors. Content In addition to the nutrition and support effects for neurons, glial is involved in pathological pain. Many experiments confirmed that these inhibitors might attenuate the pain response. Trend We hope to provide useful insight and guidance for long-term agent studies.
