Abstract: Post‑traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a chronic anxiety disorder caused by seeing or experiencing life‑threatening traumatic events, with lack of effective treatment. In recent years, stellate ganglion block (SGB) has been used to treat PTSD. This review introduces the diagnostic criteria of PTSD and the indications of SGB, summarizes previous evidence including case reports, retrospective studies and recent randomized controlled trials, which indicates that SGB can improve the subjective feelings and rating scores in PTSD patients, discusses the underlying mechanisms involving the regulation of sympathetic nerve and amygdala as well as the inhibition of nerve growth factor in stellate ganglion, and describes new techniques that can greatly improve SGB safety and effectiveness, so as to provide reference for further clinical and basic research of PTSD.
