The Mu opioid receptor (MOR) is the main opioid receptor and is highly expressed in tumor cells. Some studies have suggested that MOR has an effect on tumor recurrence and metastasis. The mechanisms of MOR affecting tumor recurrence and metastasis are complicated and controversial among different studies. This paper reviews the role of MOR and MOR subtypes on tumor cells. And the role of MOR on tumor angiogenesis through multiple signaling pathways, tumor microvascular structure and endothelial cells. This review will provide a theoretical reference for the inhibition of tumor recurrence and metastasis in clinical treatment.
