Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of continuous nursing care based on WeChat platform on home‑based rehabilitation of patients after tibiofibular fracture surgery. Methods A total of 120 patients who underwent tibiofibular fracture surgery in Department of Emergency Medicine, the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from June to December 2019 were enrolled using the convenient sampling method. According to the operation time, they were divided into two groups (n=60): an experiment group (group H, from October to December 2019) and a control group (group C, from June to September 2019). Group C underwent routine follow‑up visit, while group H additionally underwent continuous nursing care based on WeChat platform. Through the establishment of WeChat platform of continuous nursing care, hospital nursing care was extended beyond hospital. Then, both groups were compared for the Hospital for Special Surgery Knee Score (HSS), the incidence of postoperative complications, the Self‑rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) score and the score of the Medical Outcomes Study Short‑form 36 Questionnaire (SF‑36) at discharge (T0), and one, three and six months after discharge (T1, T3 and T6, respectively). Results Group H presented higher HSS scores, and lower complication incidence and SAS scores than group C at T1, T3 and T6 (P<0.05). Group H showed higher SF‑36 scores than group C at T3 and T6 (P<0.05). Compared with those at T0, group H presented increases in HSS and SF‑36 scores and decreases in complication incidences and SAS scores at T1, T3 and T6 (P<0.05). Conclusions Continuous nursing care based on Wechat platform can improve the knee joint function of patients after tibiofibular fracture surgery, reduce the incidence of postoperative complications, relieve patient anxiety, and improve the quality of life.
