Abstract: Objective To apply the relevant evidence of arterial catheterization for blood gas analysis in clinical practice Methods We followed the framework of evidence‑based continuous quality improvement, and the obtained evidence was applied in clinical setting. Nurse practice compliance, nurse knowledge, correct specimen collection, and the rate of blocking the injection channel of blood gas analyzer by blood clots were compared before and after evidence application. Results Compared with those before evidence application, after the application of evidence, the implementation rate of nurses to review indicators 2, 3, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15 and 17 increased (P<0.05), the knowledge of nurses increased (P<0.05), the first specimen collection rate increased (P<0.05), and the rate of blocking the injection channel of blood gas analyzer by blood clots increased (P<0.05). Conclusions The application of the optimal evidence of arterial catheterization for arterial blood gas analysis improves nurses' awareness of the optimal evidence, standardizes nurse procedures, improves the qualified rate of blood samples, and reduces the waste of resources.
