To clarify the value of the nerve stimulator in peripheral nerve block (PNB)， the article compares the working principles of the nerve stimulator and ultrasound guidance, as well as the advantages and limitations of each method in nerve localization. The study summarizes the research progresses on the advantages of combined nerve stimulation and ultrasound⁃guided techniques (dual guidance). The accuracy and safety of the three guidance methods, the nerve stimulator alone, ultrasound alone, and their combination, are compared in PNB, the advantages of using dual guidance were explained, and the future quality of PNB was discussed, hoping to better play the role of PNB and improve its safety.
