Abstract: Propofol is widely used in anesthesia induction and maintenance, and sedation in intensive care unit. Propofol induced urine discoloration is a benign change, without nephrotoxicity, and the color of urine can usually return to normal once propofol infusion is discontinued. The article reviews the clinical characteristics of pink, green, and white urine after propofol infusion and summarizes the related mechanisms of urine discoloration involved. Further research is needed to evaluate the long term outcome of propofol related urine discoloration and to explore its related mechanisms, in order to provide thoughts for the diagnosis and treatment for medical staff.
